Albuquerque Academy seeks an assistant director of athletics to start July 1, 2023. Albuquerque Academy is looking to engage candidates who embrace a creative and growth mindset in their approach to education and will bring that skill set to work, teach, and coach in our 6-12 athletic program. The assistant athletic director will provide administrative support for planning, directing, implementing, supervising, and assessing interscholastic programs at the Academy. A successful candidate will understand and embrace the mission of the Academy, possess exemplary character and integrity, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills. The assistant athletic director will promote co-curricular athletic activity that fosters skill development, sportsmanship, understanding of sports, and appreciation of being a team member. The assistant athletic director will be expected to teach one physical education class and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the 6/7 athletic program. The assistant athletic director must work collaboratively with the athletic department members to create a culture of teamwork and collegiality. The assistant athletic director will see the athletic program as part of, and in balance with, the full educational program at the Academy, ensuring that students are supported in pursuing excellence academically as well as in their extracurricular endeavors.The assistant athletic director will report directly to the athletic director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works with students, parents, faculty, coaches, and administrators as part of the athletic department office administrative team

Assists in the selection and assignment of coaches and staff

Organizes and schedules interscholastic athletic events

Holds primary responsibility for overseeing the 6/7 athletic program

Hires officials and game-day staff: timers, ticket-takers, scoreboard staff, announcers, game administrators, and security

Assists the athletic director in payment of officials
-
Arranges and confirms bus or other transportation for athletic participants
-
Coordinates practice schedules for gym and fields
-
Organizes and updates the athletics section of the Academy website

Enters and maintains team rosters in Veracross
-
Writes and posts alerts or messages to students, parents, and families regarding athletic updates, cancellations, changes, etc.

Serves as the supervisor or assistant at home games during the school year (afternoons, nights, and weekends)

Maintains paperwork required by the NMAA, per season, per sport

Performs any other duties as assigned by the athletic director or associate head of school.
TEACHING AND ADVISING RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Oversees an advisory group and engages fully in the divisional advising curriculum
-
Teaches at least one-year long course or the equivalent
-
Fosters and stewards a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy, in and out of the classroom

Demonstrates cultural competence and communicates and collaborates effectively across differences

Sets high expectations for learning, academic achievement, and character development

Exhibits strong working knowledge of student cognitive development and learning styles

Identifies and supports students’ social, emotional, and academic needs

Collaborates and plans actively for learning with colleagues and students

Seeks to implement backward design to align all lessons, activities, and assessments

Bachelor’s degree in sports management, physical education, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s in athletic administration preferred.

Schedule Star experience a plus, or similar scheduling software experience preferred

Capable in both written and oral communication.

Excellent organizational and presentation skills
