Position Purpose:
The student growth and learning (SGL) team is part of the Journeys School community and their role is to inspire curiosity, enagement and leadership by supporting access to high quality learning opportunities for all students. The SGL team will support faculty members in prioritizing student-centered, personalized learning within place-based contexts, whenever possible. The SGL team will build strong relationships with colleauges, students and families. Within the collaborative work environment of TSS, faculty members should expect to be contributing team members, while also taking the initiative to work autonomously.
Responsibilities:
Lead Learning Specialist
• Engage and collaborate with other members of the SGL team to discuss and evaluate practices and protocols
•Provide 1:1 and small group support to students, including evaluation, intervention and assessment
•Monitor and report on student progress frequently and regularly, using appropriately normed assessment tools
•Support classroom teachers in implementing accommodations and implementing strategies for success
•Manage Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for assigned students
•Arrange and facilitate ILP meetings with parents of assigned students
•Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents and students
•Communicate additionally with parents about individual student updates, as needed
•Collaborate with TVCS student support team, whenever possible, to align practice and provide a broader team experience for all
Team
•Complete duties to integrate with students across K-12 (for example, bus duty) and general community support including hands to work
•Offer to cover classes for others, if possible, when substitutes are not available
•Take part in Journeys School and team weekly faculty meetings
•Participate in all-school groups (e.g. Wolf Packs)
•Support administrative duties associated with successful implementation of program including open house.
One TSS Responsibilities
•Support or collaborate with teachers to develop and implement inclusive place-based education pedagogies.
•Take part in various greater TSS programs - catalyst, PBE symposium, Mini Maker Faire

Qualifications:
•Master's Degree in Special Education or related field preferred
•At least 5 years experience in special education, including experience with evaluations, benchmark assessments, IEPs or ILPs, and student support services
•Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents
•Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Google Apps
•Strong speaking and written communication skills
•Familiarity with Place-Based Education preferred
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
•Combination of indoor and outdoor learning environments
•Able to drive 15 passenger vans & minibuses with participants
•May be expected to work evenings, weekends or overtime to support special programs/events
