Berkshire Country Day School seeks a dedicated and passionate Teacher for our PreKindergarten (4 year old) class for the 2024-2025 school year.
BCD seeks a dedicated teacher with experience in teaching a group of diverse learners at the PreKindergarten or Kindergarten level. Our PreKindergarten class is a part of our Lower School, which spans PreK through Grade 3. We are looking for candidates who bring creativity, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to their craft. The PreK teacher will also exhibit a passion for fostering a strong culture of student engagement in learning, in close alignment with our mission.
We are looking for a professional who is energetic, has a positive attitude, and is a self-starter. Working collaboratively with others in a small community and instilling confidence in the program with families is required. Candidates should be creative, flexible and culturally competent with effective organizational and classroom management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to develop interpersonal relationships with faculty, parents, and students.
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development in the early years
- Motivate and stimulate children's learning abilities through a range of developmentally appropriate exploratory and inquiry-based experiences
- Demonstrate best instructional practices to deliver a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum to students
- Provide a secure environment to learn, care for and support for the developmental needs of each child - assisting the development of children's personal, social and language abilities, speech and communication, mathematical and creative development.
- Cultivate and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom culture that values various perspectives
- Use classroom management systems/tools that are focused on students’ social-emotional needs and are modeled after the Responsive Classroom methodology
- Assess and maintain written records of individual student development, which including competency checklist, narrative comments on reports and leading parent/caregiver conferences
- In collaboration with classroom faculty, develops, maintains, and revises curriculum maps in all content areas that are aligned to the School’s standards
- Communicate in a timely manner with families/faculty/staff
- Demonstrates flexibility and resourcefulness
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education
- Understanding of the developmental needs of PreK students
- Passion for fostering positive relationships with students and their families
- Competence with innovative, research-based teaching approaches
- Strong classroom management skills
- An inquisitive professional learning mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Responsive Classroom
- Experience with Handwriting Without Tears
- Experience using Google Classroom
*A minimum of a college degree in a relevant field and experience with young children
