Job Summary
Columbia Independent School is currently seeking a Latin teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This position is for middle and upper school Latin and includes two sections of Foundations of Latin, one section of Latin IV, one section of Latin Readings, and one section of AP Latin. We use theCambridge Latin Course and cover Units 1 and 2 in middle school; Unit 3 is used for Latin III; Unit 4is used for Latin IV; de bello Gallico is covered in Latin Readings and Virgil’s Aeneid in AP Latin. The teacher must have a deep understanding of the classical world as well as a love and enthusiasm for the subject that can be transferred to middle and upper school students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach beginning and advanced levels of Latin
Update and create curriculum in conjunction with the departmental goals
Work with students on an individual basis (as needed) outside of regularly scheduled class times
Provide regular feedback (written and verbal) to students and parents
Update course pages and electronic grade books regularly
Prepare progress reports and conduct conferences for students and parents
Collaborate with other departments on cross-curricular connections.
Attend faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings as scheduled
Support the mission of the school through teaching, advising, and participating as a member of the faculty
Other Duties
Serve as an advisor for an academic club or social activity
Provide support for and chaperone middle or upper school functions (field trips, socials, dances, etc.)
Attend professional development opportunities
Model life-long learning through personal and professional growth
Serve as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public
relations activities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Classical Studies (emphasis in Latin); Master’s degree preferred
Teaching experience is preferred
Demonstrated passion for working with students in the middle and upper school and an understanding of the developmental needs of the age group
