The World Language Department of Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Upper School French teacher with a dual proficiency in either Spanish or Chinese. This is a full-time, ongoing appointment, consisting of advising and four teaching sections, with the majority being French, but an additional language as needed. French should be the preferred candidate's area of expertise.
The ideal candidate will have strong academic training and expertise in the study of world languages, with a special emphasis on the ability to teach all-level French courses as needed and at least the first three levels of their additional language of proficiency. Candidates must have experience developing differentiated units, lesson plans, and assessments that utilize authentic texts to develop the communication skills of all learners in all three modes. As importantly, we seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for working with young people and who believes deeply that exposing students to diverse ideas, peoples, and cultures is essential to the successful teaching of world languages.
Candidates should be eager to join a department where collaboration is valued, where rich curricular conversations are common, and where openness to growth is the norm.
The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Demonstrated intercultural competence: the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences is a must.
Candidates are expected to carry out the mission of CA, "Creating Curious, Kind, Courageous, and Adventurous Learners and Leaders," to support the vision of the Upper School, and to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom.
