Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative substitute Physical Education teacher to join our faculty from early March 2025 through the end of the 2024-25 school year (mid-June). Responsibilities include developing in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; motivating each student to cultivate physical fitness; discovering and developing talents of students in physical achievement; developing strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (K-12 Certification)
A minimum of three (3) years of PE teaching experience
Deep understanding of the areas of physical education and fitness
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of children with physical differences, learning challenges, and a variety of skill levels, including all in activities with dignity and respect
Excellent communication skills, sound judgment and emotional maturity
Affinity and enthusiasm for working with students across grade levels, as young as 4 years of age through 18 years of age
Experience working at a progressive school or in a progressive environment; a belief in the key tenets of progressive education, namely that learning and growth are not competitive endeavors; that great teaching begins with positive, trusting relationships between students and teachers; and that engaging students fully in interesting, exciting and challenging processes is what good teaching looks like
Experience in and a commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency and seeking, continually, greater levels of diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and in curricula
