Position Summary: Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks a creative, compassionate educator who can teach science in a boarding arts high school. The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to teach in the sciences; candidates who can also offer a mathematics course are preferred. Experience in computer science is a plus. The normal course load is five courses with 2-3 preps. There are no residence hall responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a background in teaching using a variety of modalities. All students have laptops, so familiarity with using educational technology is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach a full load of classes in mathematics and science courses

Write letters of recommendation for college admissions

Mentor an Advisory Group
-
Hold office hours 4 days a week and one evening a week

Attend Department, Math and Science Division, IAA faculty, community, and other meetings as necessary

Participate in all-school events at the beginning and the end of the school year, as well as periodically throughout the year

Prepare and demonstrate progress on a yearly Professional Growth Plan

Maintain a course page online through Canvas, take attendance daily in each class, keep electronic gradebook up to date, and prepare timely and thorough grade reports and interim reports

Visit other classrooms to observe fellow instructors

Attend student performances

Ability to teach various basic and advanced science curricula is desirable

Education: A bachelor’s degree in science or math education is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Experience teaching high school students preferred. Teaching at an independent school, is preferred but not required.
- A strong interest and willingness to collaborate with colleagues, both inside and outside the math/science department is important.
- The ability to work successfully with highly creative students with diverse learning styles is important as is experience and/or an appreciation for the arts.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35 lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
