Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative high school-level Mathematics teacher who is also able to teach chemistry or physics to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan and teach two to four sections of mathematics in the mid-range, Algebra II through Calculus, and plan and teach up to two sections of either physics or chemistry, depending on need.
Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
Teach using current pedagogical practices including Universal Design for Learning, backward planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning to equip students with the 21st-century skills they need for college and beyond.
Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program.
Coach sports and/or lead activities.
Advise a small cohort of students.
Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the ongoing collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum.
Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physical science, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in mathematics, science, or education is strongly preferred.
1-5 years (or more) of teaching high school mathematics and/or science.
Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
Facility with educational LMS portals, Mac OS, tablet technologies, Microsoft365, and other math or science education-enhancing products is preferred.
Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred.
Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
