Long Term Substitute–Middle School Mandarin Teacher
North Shore Country Day
Winnetka, Illinois
North Shore Country Day, a JK-12 independent school near Chicago, seeks a long term substitute for a Middle School Mandarin teacher. The position will begin in January 2024 and run through early June 2024. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
While a bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred. Additionally, we seek candidates with three or more years of experience, a demonstrable talent and passion for language instruction and experience teaching novice through advanced Mandarin students. In keeping with our World Language Department’s philosophy, the successful candidate should be a native or near native speaker of Mandarin and utilize proficiency-driven instruction, project-based learning and current technology to support language learning. Ideal candidates will be believers in and cultivators of the “growth mindset,” excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and lifelong learners who are committed to their ongoing professional development.
Additionally, we will value candidates who have invested in growing their intercultural competencies and whose teaching practice reflects those understandings and skills both inside and outside the classroom.
Finally, because North Shore has a 1:1 iPad program in grades 6-12, candidates should be skilled integrators of 21st century technology into their teaching practice.
Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter specific to the role at NSCD, a resume, a written statement detailing their philosophy/approach to their work, and a listing of professional references.
NSCD offers competitive salaries that are commensurate with experience. Additionally, North Shore provides an excellent employee benefits program, including health and retirement benefits, tuition support for children’s attendance at North Shore, and professional development funding to support summer study, attendance at conferences/workshops, travel and advanced degree work.
