Math Curriculum and Instructional Specialist
Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, co-educational day school of 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The Lower School division has an opening for a full-time Math Curriculum and Instructional Specialist for the 2023-24 School Year.
The Math Curriculum and Instructional Specialist will be responsible for teaching a math section of Second and Third Grade classes as well as support Fourth Grade students (type of support varies depending on needs of class). The Specialist will also coordinate and support the implementation of the curriculum in Grades 4K through 4th Grade.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Facilitate grade-level meetings to provide continuity of scope, sequence, and skills using curricular and state standards across Lower School and O’Quinn Schools (4K new in 2023/2024)
Assist 4K- 4th grade classroom teachers in enriching and differentiating curriculum to ensure continued academic and affective growth and development of students
Design and implement well organized individual and group learning opportunities that align with Porter-Gaud’s Vision of a Learner
Maintain assessment data for each grade level; use data to help create and maintain groups; communicate data when appropriate
Provide additional support to students who are not meeting specific benchmarks
Conduct regular faculty professional development and coordinate other experts to facilitate professional development to enhance implementation of curriculum
Guide new Porter-Gaud teachers and facilitate onboarding
Collaborate with grade level members and student support teams to identify and address student needs
Manage Lower School Math budgetary needs
Communicate Lower School Math programming with all stakeholders within the Porter-Gaud community
Coordinate with Math Department Chair to ensure curriculum alignment with all school divisions
Collaborate with grade level teachers and special area teachers to build strong interdisciplinary learning opportunities
Assist teachers in aligning their PBL instruction with strong teaching methods, standards, and student data
Continually look for opportunities to connect with the Porter-Gaud, Charleston, and South Carolina communities as a way to develop globally minded citizens
Create a learning environment that encourages a love of learning and respect for others.
Establish and actively maintain a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and assessments which address multiple learning styles.
Participate as an active team member with the other grade level faculty as well as the Lower School community as a whole.
Communicate effectively with all constituencies within the School.
The Successful Candidate will possess:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Preferably, a degree in elementary education or early childhood education with a concentration in Math.
Related teaching experience.
Appreciation and enjoyment with interacting with Lower School students and partnering with their families in their student's overall development.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with each grade level team and all Lower School teachers.

Reporting: Math Curriculum and Instructional Specialist reports directly to the Head of Lower School.
Salary: Salary offer will be commensurate with experience.
