Position Overview and Responsibilities
St. John’s Prep seeks a Director of Wellness who is highly committed to the holistic growth and formation of our students. The Director oversees our ongoing campus-wide efforts to promote wellness as well as lead the daily operation of the School’s wellness facilities and programs. Reporting to the Principal/Associate Head of School, the Director will understand, represent, and promote the mission and identity of St. John’s Prep as an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Key responsibilities include:
Collaborating with wellness team members, members of the Principal’s Leadership Team and the Principal/Associate Head of School, and other key stakeholders across campus to plan, implement, and assess strategic initiatives and partnerships to further the concept of wellness across the St. John’s Prep campus.
Facilitating a mission-driven wellness team focusing on the ongoing planning and implementation of a comprehensive, campus-wide wellness initiative promoting all dimensions of wellness.
Coordinating the implementation of the mental skills curriculum for grade 6 and 9 students.
Creating an intentional and balanced approach to educational programming and student engagement by partnering with the Department of Athletics, Campus Ministry, Office of School Counseling, Office for Student Life, Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Development, Office of Admission, Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Center for Learning and Academic Success.
Supervising wellness team members, including: physical education faculty/staff, wellness program coordinator, aquatics coordinator, recreational sports coordinator, and strength and conditioning coordinator.
Providing periodic parent education focusing on adolescent development and wellness related topics.
In conjunction with the Center for Teaching and Learning, planning and implementing professional learning experiences for faculty and staff.
Collaborating with Assistant Principal for Student Life and Director of School Counseling to coordinate the Student Leadership Initiative.
Partnering with school leaders on building a healthy campus culture and climate that promotes equity and inclusion.
Serving as member of the Academic Council., Co-Chairing the Faculty/Staff Wellness Committee and, in collaboration with the Wellness Program Coordinator, coordinating the Student Wellness Advisory Council.
Overseeing the budget for the Wellness Team and programming as well as collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer and Controller on operating and capital budget development/planning.
Collaborating with the Assistant Head of School for Human Resources and Principal/Associate head of School on hiring mission-focused team members.
Partnering with the Facilities Department and the Athletics Department to steward resources related to maintenance and upkeep of the Mahoney Wellness Center, Memorial Gymnasium, Cronin Memorial Stadium, Outdoor Education Ropes Course elements, and the Brother Linus, C.F.X. Athletic Commons.
Teaching one section of physical education.
Engaging in other areas of focus as designated by the Principal/Associate Head of School.

Education and Experience
Master’s degree required. Candidates with a doctorate degree will be given preference.
Candidates should have academic preparation and experience in exercise science, performance psychology, and/or other health/wellness related fields.
A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in an educational setting.
Previous experience with team building, strategic needs assessment and planning, and establishing strong partnerships with internal and external constituents..
American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
