Renbrook School (West Hartford, CT), an independent day school for children age three to grade eight, currently seeks a full-time, experienced early childhood director to lead this foundational division of the school for the 2023-2024 school year. The Director will be responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, managing, and supervising of programs for three grade levels - preschool, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten. This is a 12-month position that reports to the Head of School and requires strong supervisory and communication skills with a warm, positive, and nurturing disposition.

Through a play-based curriculum using the school’s extensive outdoor learning spaces, teachers cultivate students’ intrinsic motivation and creativity with emergent curriculum design. Key Responsibilities:
Program Development
- Maintain, develop, or modify curriculum to meet the needs of children enrolled in the Beginning School
- Remain current with developments in early childhood education.
Staff Supervision and Support
- Oversee and support teachers in administering, planning, and assessing developmentally appropriate learning
- Train and supervise teachers by holding regular meetings and assisting in the classroom when necessary
- Regularly monitor teacher performance and provide coaching or mentoring for improvement and development
- Support teachers’ professional growth using Renbrook’s Professional Growth Plan
Administrative Responsibilities
- With the Head of the Lower School, create annual class/teacher schedules
- Assign teachers to grade levels and classrooms
- Work collaboratively with the Admissions Department during preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten Parent Meet & Greets, when reviewing applications, and at events
Fiscal Responsibilities:
- Work with the CFO to prepare an annual budget for approval by the Board
- Order new materials and supplies for each new school year
- Review classroom budgets monthly in order to ensure prudent spending
Communication and Leadership:
- Develop strong rapport with colleagues, students, and parents
- Communicate effectively with Renbrook parents, employees, and prospective families in support of Renbrook's Mission

Qualifications:
- Minimum degree requirements: bachelor's in early childhood education, three years early childhood classroom teaching experience, and one year as an early childhood assistant director or director. Master’s degree in early childhood education preferred.
