Sheridan School, an independent K-8 school in Washington, D.C., is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, student-centered MS Long Term Music Substitute Teacher who loves music and wants to positively impact the lives of young people through music education. The music teacher is responsible for effectively collaborating to create a nurturing educational environment, delivering high-quality instruction, and supporting the social-emotional growth of students. December 11, 2023 -June 7, 2024.

The individual who fills this role will:
- Provide a progressive, concept-based, music curriculum to students in Grades 5-8.
- Assess and adapt the music curriculum to meet needs of students and classes in a flexible and responsive manner.
- Produce and Direct the Middle School musical
- Attend and actively participate in Mountain Campus trips, as assigned.
- Use a variety of assessment techniques to track student progress
- Serve as an advisor in the Middle School advisory program
The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field, several years of experience as a classroom teacher in a high school or middle school, a proven ability to establish supportive relationships with all school constituencies, strong communication and writing skills, mastery of skills/content/understandings of middle school music, and knowledge of developmental stages of students in 5th-8th grade.

About Sheridan School
Sheridan is an independent, co-educational, K-8 school located in northwest Washington, DC, offering a progressive, concept-based curriculum that promotes social justice and utilizes Reading and Writing Workshop, Math in Focus and Responsive Classroom. Each grade has about 25 students in one homeroom with two teachers. Departmental classes are taught in smaller sections outside of the homeroom by content specialists.
