The Position
Shorecrest is looking for an experienced administrator who has worked with and understands children with learning differences and who has an entrepreneurial spirit to grow the The Learning Center program into a Center for Academic Excellence which maximizes its positive impact on Shorecrest. The ideal candidate will possess extraordinary communication and management skills, and be both collaborative and decisive. The Director will be an innovative thinker who will create a vision whereby students of all levels, faculty, staff and families benefit from the Center for Academic Excellence. The Director will provide leadership for the direction of the Center – its programming, its staffing, and its relationships with each school division and department.
The Director will report directly to the Head of School and will sit on the Senior Administrative Team. The Director will supervise a full-time staff of 5, oversee independent contractors and outside vendors and work in collaboration with other senior administrators.
Essential Functions
- Grow the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE)
- Evaluate the structure of CAE
- Create efficient systems within the CAE
- Provide leadership for the professionals within the CAE
- Craft a vision for the CAE which aligns with the overall school mission, vision and culture
- Partner with Division Heads/Academic Dean, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, to integrate the services of CAE into each school division
- See the whole school through an academic lens, Alpha (PK3)-Grade 12
- Provide opportunities for faculty members to become better teachers for all kinds of students through professional development, in partnership with Shorecrest’s Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning
- Oversee a CAE team which provides supplementary academic intervention, support and enrichment opportunities to best engage all Shorecrest students
- Lead multiple aspects of the CAE: tutoring component, third-party vendors, in-class programming, enrichment activities, summer and auxiliary programming
- Possess management and communication skills to collaborate across School Divisions with a full school perspective
- Possess knowledge of compliance regarding 504 plans, IEPs, and accommodation plans
- Responsible for all financial operation of the CAE, including budgeting, managing expenses and generating revenues
- Contribute as a member of the Senior Administrative Team
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Potential Opportunities
- Develop programs to provide support to students (tutoring, enrichment, remediation)
- In conjunction with the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, develop Teacher/Parent/Student Education workshops to provide information on specialized topics
- Implement an effective referral and follow-up process with coordinators/tutors
- Oversee year-round tutoring program for current and incoming Shorecrest students
- Work with families (current and new) over the summer to prepare students with accommodations for the upcoming school year (train on Learning Ally, identify school processes, etc)
- Be the point person for the on-boarding of new international students and families to assess school accommodation needs and identify if there are standardized testing accommodations needs
- Work with the Director of Auxiliary Programs to create and facilitate summer programs
- Create and implement an after-school academic enrichment program
- Create more expansive oversight of independent content tutors
- Secure more efficient ways of scheduling and billing
- Create surveys to gather feedback on a regular basis from parents about performance of and satisfaction with independent content tutors
- Evaluate independent contractors and outside vendors on an annual basis
- Help facilitate communication to parents and students when tutors cancel sessions
- Facilitate communication between tutors and Shorecrest faculty
- Explore revenue prospect of hiring and managing in-house tutors and charging parents per hour at a competitive rate
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree is preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of administrative experience, preferably with an understanding of independent schools
- Knowledge and understanding of best practices for student remediation, intervention and enrichment services
- Demonstrates leadership and facilitative skills
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Possession of good interpersonal and collaborative skills, including conflict resolution
- A working knowledge of computer applications, network, and internet applications, as well as the desire to embrace technology in a 21st century curriculum
- Committed to inclusion and issues of diversity and equity
