Job Description:
The Spanish Teacher will create lessons and activities that introduce students to Spanish language and culture beginning in the Montessori Pre-Primary program (ages 3-6) and continue throughout Grades 1-4; additionally they will teach introductory Spanish and HS Spanish I level curriculum for Upper Elementary and Middle School (grades 5 through 8) students. The curriculum begins as cultural enrichment and linguistic exposure in Pre-Primary and segues into a more sequential structure in Elementary levels. Collaboration with the Elementary I, II, and Middle classroom teachers is expected. The Spanish Teacher will create a positive learning environment, and communicate well and frequently about classroom dynamics with colleagues and administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design an appropriate curriculum to introduce Spanish to students beginning in Pre-Primary
- Provide direct instruction to prepare Elementary I and II students (grades 1-6) for Middle School Spanish classes (7th and 8th grade)
- Possibly teach introductory Spanish and HS Spanish I to Middle School students
- Attend full faculty/staff meetings as necessary
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a related degree; candidates with a bachelor’s degree in some unrelated field will be expected to demonstrate full fluency with the Spanish language. Experience teaching Spanish to Pre-Primary and Elementary-aged students will give candidates a strong advantage. Familiarity with Montessori philosophy and pedagogy is a plus. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate effective classroom skills and strong communication skills. A sense of humor is essential!
