POSITION: MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER
REPORTS TO: MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
St. Matthew’s Parish School is seeking a full-time middle school science teacher for the 2024-25 school year. Applicants must be capable of and willing to teach a range of middle school students from grades 5 through 8. The middle school science department strives to create and maintain a joyful learning environment that nurtures students' sense of imagination. Our students are encouraged to think critically and solve problems by engaging in hands-on STEM-based learning experiences.
The Science Department at St. Matthew’s is very well resourced and enjoys a reputation for innovation and award winning programs. Candidates must have a strong understanding of child development, enjoy young adolescents, and display a passion for their subject. The ideal candidate will have experience with creating and participating in project based learning units, and hands-on curriculum for middle school students. Candidates should enjoy collaborating with colleagues and engaging in the entire middle school experience. The selected candidate will coordinate the curriculum with other science teachers and will include a range of scientific areas, such as physical science, life science, chemistry, environmental science and geology.
Additionally, middle school teachers serve as advisors to a small group of students and may be involved with extracurricular or interdisciplinary programs.
The school prides itself on its collegial and professional working atmosphere, engaged and respectful students, and beautiful campus setting in Pacific Palisades. Over 90% of the graduates from the eighth grade matriculate to highly selective independent secondary schools. Class sizes range from 16-18 students. Two modern science labs and a creator space are available to middle school students creating a wonderful environment for learning.
St. Matthew's Parish School is a coeducational day school for 350 students, ranging from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade. Founded in 1949, the school is the educational member of the Episcopal Parish of St. Matthew. Located on 30 acres one mile from the Pacific Ocean in the village of Pacific Palisades, the campus includes 28 classrooms, a 10,000 book volume library, a swimming pool, several state of-the-art science laboratories and computer facilities, a gymnasium and performing arts center, a library and student center, plus spacious playgrounds and playing fields.

B.A. or B.S. in fields related to Science
