OVERVIEW
The St. Luke’s School motto, Enter to learn; Go forth to serve, captures the spirit of an exceptional school, in service of graduating students who are motivated and well-prepared to make a positive difference in the world. Founded in 1928 and located on a beautiful, wooded hilltop in New Canaan, CT, St. Luke’s enrolls 590 students in grades five through twelve. Academic excellence and genuine care for each student are balanced to create an environment that is inspiring, challenging, and joyful. While outcomes are important, faculty and students alike embrace the idea that knowledge itself is a worthy prize.
The St. Luke's Middle School is an exciting place to be on any given day. Teachers integrate real-world topics into our traditional curriculum, challenging students to make connections, think critically, and find their voices. With 227 students in grades 5-8, the Middle School is small enough for everyone to know each other and large enough to offer a wide range of opportunities to inspire students’ academic and personal growth. Collaborative projects allow students to take risks as leaders and problem-solvers. In time, our middle schoolers become purposeful and spirited learners and leaders, confident in themselves and an integral part of our diverse community. Fifteen out of our last twenty Valedictorians and Salutatorians started their St. Luke's journey in Middle School. By the time they graduate, students are well on their way to becoming whatever they wish to be—ethical leaders, insightful scholars, winning athletes, and talented artists.
St. Luke’s seeks a new Head of Middle School for July 1, 2023. Working closely with Head of School Mary Halpin Carter, the senior leadership team, a divisional team currently consisting of two Assistant Division Heads and an Executive Assistant, and experienced and dedicated faculty, the Head of Middle School will be responsible for ensuring that St. Luke’s delivers on its mission to offer “an exceptional education that inspires a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead.”
