St. Mary Academy - Bay View is seeking substitute teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. Successful applicants must be willing to work on a daily basis to cover instruction for absent teachers. Candidates are needed for Grades PK-5 in the Lower School and in specific content areas for Grades 6 -12. Candidates must be committed to an all-girls education and Mercy values. 

Specific responsibilities for this position include:

Execute lesson plans provided by the teacher to create a cohesive and coherent learning experience for students. 

Maintaining classroom culture and behavior among students. 

Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment. 

Follow policies and procedures of the school. 

Assumes duties and responsibilities (e.g. lunch coverage, bus duty) for the teacher while the teacher is absent. 

Qualifications for this position are: 

BA/BS degree preferred; but 2 years of successful college coursework accepted

Evidence of experience and/or content knowledge for the grade level or content area covered. 

Strong work ethic and a caring temperament 

Understanding and appreciation of the developmental range of the age group

Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills 

A sense of humor, warmth, and a love of working with children and their families.
