The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a Music Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This position includes membership in the Music Department and direct reporting to the Department Chair. The ideal candidate brings broad musical knowledge across theory, ear training, performance, ensemble leadership, music technology, and recording, along with professional-level skills as a performer, composer, producer, and recording engineer. We seek educators with real-world experience in the music profession and a continued commitment to active artistic practice.
Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, value progressive, student-centered education, and build meaningful connections with students. They should be enthusiastic about working with creative learners with diverse learning styles and experienced in differentiated, multimodal instruction. Applicants should also be well-versed in culturally responsive teaching practices, committed to ongoing development of cultural competency and equity literacy, and eager to collaborate with colleagues in our vibrant, arts-infused school community.
Essential Functions of this Position Include:
Teach a range of core music classes and electives through a project-based and interdisciplinary lens. Coursework expertise in music theory, ear training, recording & production, and ensemble (playing/conducting) preferred.
Demonstrate strong piano proficiency, including excellent sight reading, as both accompanist and soloist. One or more additional instrument proficiencies would be a plus, especially in woodwinds, horns, or strings. Accompanying and leading singers are welcome.
Manage and engineer the school’s recording studio.
Plan, develop, and execute lessons that showcase innovation, creativity, and a commitment to the art of teaching, while also utilizing distinctive instructional approaches that pique and cultivate students’ curiosity and serve their long-term interests.
Evaluate each student’s ability to meet course standards in music knowledge and skills. Document and communicate academic progress to students, advisors, and guardians.
Participate in weekly departmental meetings, prepared to discuss student concerns, teaching pedagogy, and curriculum developments.
Assist with departmental representation at school outreach events.
Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and share new pedagogical techniques and develop specific curricular expertise.
Stay abreast of current topics in music education and technologies.
Skills and Qualifications:
Master's degree in music or equivalent required, or relevant professional experience as a performer, composer, arranger, producer, and interest in music education.
Teaching experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to strong collaboration across and within departments.
Ability and interest in making strong connections with adolescent students.
Ability to work within a department.
Commitment to the values of progressive, student-centered education.
Passion for teaching creative students with a variety of learning styles.
