The Colorado Springs School (CSS), a rigorous college-preparatory day school that serves 340 students from preschool to 12th grade, invites applications and nominations as it seeks an outgoing, energetic, and experienced leader to serve as its next Head of School. Located in the second largest metro area in Colorado, The Colorado Springs School has a historic and beautiful 28-acre campus in the Broadmoor neighborhood of Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs has received many accolades, including “most desirable place to live in the U.S.” The city is also home to a number of prominent postsecondary institutions, including Colorado College, the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. The Colorado Springs School intentionally creates an environment where every child is challenged and explores new experiences. CSS works to provide students with an exceptional experience influenced by constructivist educational theory and brain-based educational research. A school that prepares students for a dynamic future, CSS provides a rigorous curriculum and co-curricular programs that reflect both national and global perspectives. Experiential education is a vital theme across the curriculum. Students enrolled in the lower and middle schools participate in myriad programs that allow them to travel throughout Colorado on curriculum-based trips designed to teach and reinforce academic principles and life lessons through firsthand experience. By the time they reach high school, students are prepared to participate in Experience-Centered Seminars, where they are afforded opportunities to apply knowledge and learning to real-world situations. The School’s strong commitment to building emotional skills, teamwork, and leadership capacity enables students to lead purposeful lives. The Head of School serves as CSS’s chief executive officer, overseeing all aspects of its programs and operational functions. The Head of School is appointed by and reports to the Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be a highly engaged, emotionally intelligent, and collaborative leader who deeply understands and appreciates independent school education and experiential, place-based learning communities. The next Head of School will display the highest integrity, confidence, courage, and conviction in leading CSS. An accomplished professional with honed managerial and leadership skills, the new Head of School will focus their efforts on highlighting The Colorado Springs School’s innovation in experiential and student-centered education. In addition, the incoming Head of School will identify new opportunities that will add to CSS’s institutional growth and bolster its presence among independent schools. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $200,000 - $215,000 with a generous benefits package.
