Position Summary:
The Foote School seeks a talented, energetic individual to join its faculty as a long-term substitute for Grades 4, 5, and 6, including Middle School Chorus from mid-May to mid-June. Music and the arts play a key role in each student’s experience. One of the primary goals of arts instruction at the Foote School is to develop and expand children's natural abilities of perception, interpretation, and appreciation of the forms, sounds, and language of creativity. Our curriculum is designed to encourage a positive attitude and a lifelong interest in the arts. The successful candidate will have a strong background in music instruction and should demonstrate a passion for the subject along with flexibility, creativity, and an interest in this age group. This is a maternity leave replacement position beginning mid-May through mid-June, and anticipated hours will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 each day.

Responsibilities:
- Implement the lesson plans and curriculum provided, which are based on a Kodály sequence that builds understanding of music and includes soprano recorder instruction and the teaching of folk dance.
- Collaborate with fellow music teachers and other faculty members to prepare students for May Day performance and end-of-year graduation performances.
- Lead and serve as faculty advisor for our Middle School Chorus, grades 6-9, to finalize preparations and perform at Graduation and Celebration ceremonies in mid-June.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in music education.
- Experience teaching music to upper elementary and middle school-age children.
- Training in the Kodály method and solfège instruction is preferred.
- A clear interest in being part of a community that seeks to challenge prejudice and is committed to diversity and inclusion.
- Strong personal and interpersonal skills.
