POSITION SUMMARY
The Hewitt School seeks a full time middle school history teacher for the 2023-2024 academic year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach a full load of middle school history courses in 6th and 7th grades
- Serve as a middle school advisor
- Collaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence
- Serve on academic committees as determined by the head of middle school
- Serve as a full member of the community by leading clubs, or activities beyond classroom duties, attending school events such as concerts and games, and serving as proctor as needed
- Engage fully in Hewitt’s commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyond
- Willing to receive and give feedback, and engage in reflection, in order to improve practice
- Write student reports and stay in regular communication with parents
- Participate in admissions and parent education events
- Write entries for the weekly divisional newsletters about class activities
- Chaperone field trips, including potential overnight trips
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
- Teaching experience
- Bachelor’s degree in history, history education, or a related field
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Master’s degree in history, education, or a related field
- Inquiry-based, student centered pedagogy
- Culturally responsive approach to teaching
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
- Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly

- Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
- A reflective professional practice and the ability to model intellectual exploration
SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
