Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is a full-time role within the Business Office who is responsible for performing routine financial and accounting tasks at the direction of the Controller. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for maintaining all functions related to student billing.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain student billing system, including working with families to ensure accounts are kept current.
- Maintain and update accounting records and files.
- Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g. by assets, liabilities and expenses)
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Record, analyze and reconcile transactions with donors.
General Responsibilities
- As assigned, complete necessary month-end and year-end reconciliations
- Prepare documents for audits.
- Report to the Controller and work to improve financial processes.
Qualifications and Expectations
- A bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of 1-3 years' experience in non-profit accounting, preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with school representatives, parents, students, and representatives from the business community.
- Working knowledge of business accounting policies, procedures, practices and software programs.
- Occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
