The Director of Student Support:
- Reports to Dean of Academics & Curriculum (pre-1st-12th)
- Leads and coordinates six divisional counselors, six divisional learning strategists, and three divisional nurses
- Is directly involved in the academic life of the school through classroom teaching or counseling
Position Status: This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 11-month position.
DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORT PRE-1ST through 12TH
QUALIFICATIONS
- Educational background and/or professional experience in counseling and neuroscience, including expertise in psychometrics and psychoeducational testing
- Deep fluency in the culture of high achieving K-12 schools
- An understanding of risk and legal issues as they relate to student support
- Knowledge of and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging practices as part of the mental, cognitive and emotional development of a child
OPPORTUNITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Articulate a vision and a strategy--grounded in neuroscience--that unlocks learning potential and nurtures the health and well-being of all students pre-1st through 12th grade.
- Lead and support cross-divisional teams to achieve vision and implement strategy
- Present to and connect with a variety of community stakeholders, including parents, alumni, and outside partners
- Connect Westminster to Atlanta, and Atlanta to Westminster
- Contribute to the larger school community through sponsoring extracurricular programs, clubs and/or coaching sports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
