GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Cape Henry Collegiate is seeking a passionate and experienced Upper School Art and Yearbook Teacher to join our Visual and Digital Arts department beginning in August 2026. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in teaching various art techniques, including digital arts, 3D design, graphic design, and Yearbook.
They should have a passion for creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment within the art program, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported. The Upper School Art and Yearbook Teacher will be responsible for fostering creativity and innovation in the arts as well as connecting with the wider community to showcase the work of our art program.
This is a full time position where the teacher will lead five classes from across the Visual and Digital Art department, including a course dedicated to creating the yearbook. The teacher will also serve as an advisor to Upper School students and should be willing to engage in other events to support the CHC community.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of students at various skill levels and learning styles.
Teach students various art techniques, including digital arts and 3D design, using a variety of mediums and materials.
Use and instruct students on how to create using Adobe Creative Suite
Support students in developing understanding with both the technical and artistic aspects of photography and graphic design.
Assess student learning and progress, and provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians.
Maintain a safe and organized art classroom, and ensure that all materials and equipment are properly used and cared for.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into cross-curricular activities and events.
Participate in professional development activities to stay current on teaching techniques and best practices.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, colleagues, and school administration about student progress and classroom activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong knowledge of various art techniques, including digital arts and 3D design.
Knowledge of Fine Arts Standards of Learning.
Demonstrated knowledge of both the technical and artistic aspects of photography.
Passion for working with upper school age students and creating a positive learning environment.
Ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain a safe learning environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Requirements: Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in visual or digital arts or a related field, master’s degree and at least three years of teaching experience are preferred.
