Catlin Gabel Middle School is looking for a part-time Mandarin Teacher! This position is set to begin in January of 2024. The Middle School Mandarin Chinese teacher teaches two sections of Mandarin and co-advises a group of students in an advisory/homeroom setting. In addition to daily formal teaching responsibilities, teachers are expected to participate in, and lead, activities that include but are not limited to extra-curricular, experiential, and community engagement across grade levels. All faculty participate in retreats and trips with students throughout the year. As a progressive school, we expect all employees to embrace whole child education, inquiry-based practices, educating for democracy, and experiential learning pedagogies.
Success in the position will be evaluated based on the individual’s ability to support the Facilities Department in achievement of their goals, which includes:
- Teach two sections of Middle School classes (Grades 7 & 8).
- Support students with their learning and growth in the classroom as well as in forums outside of the classroom, like office hours as well as grade level team meetings
- Create an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for classroom behavior
- Coordinate and implement, at the classroom level, appropriate student assessments and utilize assessment results to enhance student learning, including differentiated instruction
- Collaborate with department members in designing and implementing curriculum that aligns with the school mission and departmental aims, including preparing students for high school requirements
- Cooperatively work and communicate effectively with parents/guardians in conferences, written reports, and with informal interactions
- Develop, plan, and lead or co-lead experiential learning activities with a group of students
Pay Rate: $26,731-$48,279/year
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in teaching, education, Mandarin or related field preferred.
- At least two years’ demonstrated effective teaching experience.
- Prior experience working with adolescents is required.
- Experience with Understanding by Design instructional planning a plus
- Experience with student-centered teaching, project-based learning, and performance-based assessment is preferable
