Position Description
Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES) seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Upper School Science Instructor to teach Biology for the 2026-2027 school year. We offer a highly-motivated, collaborative learning environment that supports teacher professional growth, nurtures student-teacher relationships, and develops creative and critical thinking skills in every student. This position will involve teaching 5 sections of multiple levels of Biology, likely including International Baccalaureate (IB) Biology, as well as mentoring an advisee group of Upper School students of diverse interests and backgrounds.
General Responsibilities
Plan and collaborate with other content area and grade level teachers
Deliver highly engaging, student-centered, and inquiry-based instruction, differentiating for all students to be successful
Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students
Build a positive classroom culture that supports joy, active learning, and the school’s core values
Maintain an organized, structured, well-managed classroom environment
Actively support and contribute to a positive school culture for all members of the community
Continuously assess students’ progress and use data to inform instructional decisions
Provide students with consistent and ongoing feedback
Communicate consistently and openly with families to build an effective school-home partnership
Mentor student-inquiry projects as part of our Sophomore Project, Senior Capstone, and IB Diploma programs
Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through active participation in professional development
Perform other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school’s policies, procedures, and practices
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated expertise in content and pedagogical knowledge
Demonstrate strong instructional technology skills that effectively integrate age-appropriate digital tools and platforms to enhance learning and engagement
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
Excellent collaboration skills; tact in dealing with parents, faculty, staff and students
Ability to exercise good judgment and comply with school standards
Desire to engage in the life and culture of the school, including community events, after-school activities, and programs such as clubs, performing groups, or athletic teams
Education and/or Experience
Bachelors degree required, preferably in education, science, or related field; Masters degree preferred
Background in science and biology, and/or a related field preferred
Teaching experience in an Upper School setting preferred
