Position Summary and Overview

The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a Maternity Leave Replacement for an Upper School Science Assistant Teacher for 11th grade chemistry for the 2024-2025 school year (Beginning in early January).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
• Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
• Support with planning science curriculum, lessons, and assignments
• Support with attendance each period
• Support with maintaining gradebook
• Support with writing student progress reports
• Work collaboratively with team members
• Support students by 
• Scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects
• Developing critical thinking, problem solving skills and tools to become self advocates and productive learners
• Utilizing multimodal methods of teaching
• Assess student work and participation

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have...

• BA or BS Degree (Degree in Education, Special Education, Science or related field preferred)
• Knowledge of general science including chemistry concepts
• Experience working with, mentoring, supervising and/or building positive relationships with children 
• Ability to work comfortably with a team
• Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
• Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology in the classroom
• Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
• Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor

Compensation 

• 45K-53K commensurate with experience
