Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, aK-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a Head Mathematics Teacher (Middle School Grades) beginning mid-August 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Work collaboratively with cooperating team members, including but not limited to: assistant teacher, related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, and projects & activities that reflect a diversity of voices and points of view
Develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools for students to become independent, college-bound learners
Plan and implement instruction using sixth, seventh and eighth grade Math in Focus curriculum
Effectively incorporate multiple approaches to instruction (small group instruction, cooperative learning, multimodal learning etc.)
Differentiate, adapt and modify instruction and assignments as needed
Break down/scaffold of in-class assignments and projects
Grade student work and participation
Track students’ work and progress
Serve as an advisor to students
Initiate and maintain communication with student families
Attend relevant staff meetings
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
BA or BS Degree in Math, Math Education, Special Education or related field
MA or MS Degree in Math, Math Education, Special Education or related field
NYS Teacher Certification
Familiarity with Singapore Approach and multi-sensory instruction
3 or more years of classroom experience building positive and appropriate relationships with students
Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation
$63K-$85K commensurate with experience
