Salary Details:
The pay range for the position is $60,000 - $80,000. Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any discrepancies that may exist do not relate to sex. Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Middle School Humanities teacher. This is a full-time position for the 2023 – 2024 school year. The position begins in August 2024.
The CA Middle School program provides a crucial bridge between our Lower and Upper School programs. Its foundation is a strong academic curriculum but is balanced by an extensive and challenging program in athletics, the arts and community service. A child's Middle School experience at Colorado Academy is characterized by small classes, high standards, a faculty committed to the growth of every student and an abiding belief that the most successful learners are the most active and involved learners.
Learning at CA is not confined to the classroom. Learning opportunities abound. The school’s experiential Interim program, student-generated club activities, and a broad-based community service program are among the hallmarks of every student’s Middle School experience.
Responsibilities:
6th grade Core - a combined English and social studies program which includes advisory responsibilities. The English and Social Studies program emphasizes reading and writing skill development as well as complex problem solving
1 section of 7th grade social studies
1 section of LearningLAB – a pullout learning support program for 6-8 students
Desired Qualities and Qualifications:
At least three years of experience working with middle school students (grades 6 through 8).
- Background in teaching English/Language Arts
- Background in teaching the writing process
- Experience differentiating instruction for students with learning differences preferred (Learning LAB section) Note: Our learning specialist will be available to support our new teacher as they begin work with this small group of students as needed.
- Be a problem-solver at heart and able to guide students through an inquiry-based, thought-provoking program, balancing conceptual understanding with skill-based learning
- Demonstrated leadership in developing innovative, vibrant, rigorous programming in both areas of responsibility
- Put the development of the whole child first
- Collaborate well with a team of teachers
- Understand the role of technology
- Coaching abilities are a plus
Candidates should be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued, where rich curricular conversations are common, and where openness to growth is the norm. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated intercultural competence: the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences is a must. Additionally, candidates will be expected to share in the day-to-day life of the school community, which includes organizing and running a one-week Middle School Interim, and serving as a grade-level advisor.
