Position Description
The Associate Major Gift Officer (AMGO) will be an integral member of the major giving program and as a front-line fundraising staff in coordination with the entire Advancement team. As part of the major gifts team, the Associate Major Gift Officer will steward St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School donors and identify and cultivate new donors as well as funding opportunities. The AMGO will also manage a personal portfolio of 125-150 donors or prospective donors with the potential to make gifts of between $10,000 and $100,000.
The Associate Major Gift Officer will work with affinity groups supporting athletics, the arts, and student activities to coordinate their program-specific fundraising within the framework of the Delbarton Fund (annual fund). In addition, s/he will support the School’s major gift program through cultivation and solicitation of all major gifts for various philanthropic priorities.
Responsibilities
- Be part of a first-class major gifts program to ensure consistent growth of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School’s giving community.
- Secure major gift level contributions of $10,000 or more in support of the Abbey and School. The Associate Major Gift Officer will manage a portfolio of major gift donors, will be charged with consistently adding prospects to his or her portfolio, and will support the Director of Major Gifts, the Headmaster and Abbey Development Officer on their respective major gift strategies.
- Take part in the development, planning, and implementation of a comprehensive prospect strategy to achieve successful donor cultivation, engagement, and solicitations, including but not limited to moving prospects from one giving level to the next. This will include actively participating in pipeline meetings with other St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School major gift professionals.
- Play an essential part in supporting the identification, development, and implementation cultivation/stewardship/volunteer opportunities, campus visits and tours – as needed – to increase involvement for current and prospective donors.
- Provide support for the execution of small-scale intimate engagement and event opportunities to educate, inspire, and strengthen major gift donors and prospects.
- Build donor relationships through email, phone, Zoom, and face-to-face meetings.
- Ensure information related to fundraising strategies and activities, as well as other appropriate information related to donors/potential donors, are entered into Raiser’s Edge (RE) efficiently.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of fundraising experience, or equivalent, in a relevant field.
- Commitment to supporting and advancing the Roman Catholic mission and identity of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School.
- Outstanding written and verbal skills to persuasively communicate the Benedictine Catholic mission of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School to diverse constituencies. Experience cultivating and closing five and six figure major gifts, utilize moves management, and effectively cultivating and stewarding major donors.
- Ability to work with and communicate with a wide range of internal constituents including the School Board of Regents, senior School and Abbey leadership, Advancement staff, Business staff and volunteers.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, high volume, multifaceted, results-oriented work environment.
- Must have the flexibility to travel occasionally and work evenings and weekends. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be proficient in research and relevant analysis, including navigation of databases and online resources.
- Strong working knowledge of the broad national and local philanthropic landscape, prospect research methodology, best practices, and evolving trends in philanthropy highly preferred.
- Ability to analyze issues, identify priorities, manage projects, and make decisions expeditiously.
- Ability to lead a dynamic team for optimal results.
- Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge (RE) software.
