Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the School currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are seeking a full-time dynamic, innovative and experienced 6th Grade Science teacher to join our expert faculty. A strong background in general science is preferred. Additionally, coursework is conducted in an experiential lab setting that combines learning by doing, exploring/tinkering, and some more traditional pedagogical techniques. Coursework is taught with thought provoking activities that challenge and inspire inquiry.
Compensation:
Salary Range: $70,022 - $133,748
Faculty positions are paid on a step-level salary scale, commensurate with background and years of experience. Francis W. B.S. in General Science (i.e. Geology, Climate Science, Meteorology, Chemistry, Physics), Master’s or Ph.D. preferred
A minimum of three years teaching experience, middle school preferred
Understanding of and commitment to the tenets of progressive education
Demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and curriculum
Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, creativity, sense of humor, and emotional maturity
Knowledge of developmental issues and stages common in Middle School students
Knowledge of serving as an Advisor/Advisory Program
An affinity for and ability to communicate with early adolescents
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues on a team
Demonstrated use of research-based pedagogical methods in the classroom
Ability to differentiate instruction to include all learners
Experience in communicating with parents
Commitment to ongoing professional development in science and progressive education
Interest and experience in developing and creating science curriculum
Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards and impacts of climate change
Familiarity with innovative uses of technology in the service of educational growth
