Germantown Friends School is seeking an Athletic Fields and Grounds Manager who is responsible for the maintenance of the school’s main campus and 14-acre outdoor athletic grounds complex, including an all-weather track, tennis courts, and additional off-site fields.
Duties and Responsibilities
Creates and implements annual maintenance plan for all athletic field areas and main campus.
Maintains the appearance and functionality of all types of athletic fields (e.g., softball, baseball, soccer, track, lacrosse).
Ensures that the underlying soil of athletic fields with natural turf has the required composition to allow proper drainage and support the grasses used on the fields.
Applies chemicals and uses other techniques as needed to prevent/remove weeds, pests, and rodents.
Mows, waters, fertilizes, aerates, and seeds athletic fields.
Marks out boundaries and lines of athletic fields.
Assures cleanliness of main campus and all athletic fields by controlling litter and garbage.
Performs all aspects of snow removal and ice melt operations.
Maintains MSDS forms for all chemicals used.
Participates in other maintenance activities as needed.
Requirements
Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents
Knowledge of NCAA requirements for field set-up for collegiate baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s soccer
Experience with personnel management
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Operating knowledge of MS Office products
Ability to multi-task and run several major events simultaneously
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Two to four years of experience with caring for and maintaining outdoor playing fields (including turf management) and facilities
Fundamental knowledge of mechanical equipment, plant care, and chemical weed control
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime during sporting events
Obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License within six months of employment
Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
Successfully complete all state, federal, and child abuse clearances
Physical Requirements
Groundskeepers need to be in good physical shape due to the strenuous nature of the job.
Ability to stand and walk for most of the day.
Ability to lift 70 lbs.
Requires physical exertion to manually lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects and materials.
Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
Requires climbing and balancing.
Must work indoors and outdoors all year round.
Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
Must be able to drive a mechanical vehicle.
