Position Summary:
Greens Farms Academy, an independent day school in Westport, Connecticut, is seeking an energetic, strength and conditioning professional who is interested in building a program for athlete development appropriate for all students Pre-K through 12, regardless of their experience or interest in organized sport. This role will partner with the Director of Athletics & Physical Education and the day-to-day leads of our Upper School Athletics, Middle School Athletics, and Physical Education programs in the development of training programs that will benefit student-athletes of all ages and ability levels.
The ideal candidate will be a certified strength and conditioning coach, have experience coaching at the high school and/or collegiate level, a desire to join and belong to a community of coaches and educators, outstanding communication skills, and the discipline to align their work with GFA’s mission and core values.
Essential Functions:
Develop age-appropriate training practices designed to enhance agile movement, balance, performance, and coordination.
Work in partnership with varsity and sub-varsity coaches to develop and implement athletic development programs that prepare all GFA student-athletes (ranging from novice to high-performing) for present and future performance
Lead and innovate in creation of programming promoting fitness and wellness after-school that appeals to a broad range of abilities and interests
Instruct GFA Middle (5th through 8th grades) & Upper School (9th through 12 grades) student-athletes in the proper conditioning techniques for optimizing performance, development, and health
Partner with Lower School Physical Education (PreK through 4th grades) faculty to integrate best practices into curriculum and to potentially serve as a member of Lower School P.E. faculty
Oversee the development and operation of all training spaces
Provide leadership to Wellness & Performance staff responsible for training student-athletes
Ensure that GFA athletic programming remains current with the knowledge and advances in age-appropriate athlete development
Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Physical Education
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree from an accredited college or university
Related experience developing and implementing strength and conditioning programming at co-educational independent day schools and at the college level
Certified by a nationally recognized accredited strength and conditioning certification program: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and/or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCSa) strength and conditioning coach certified (SCCC)
Master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field strongly preferred
