Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving over 500 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking a full-time accounting and payroll specialist for an immediate hire. This position will be 40 hours per week.

The Accounting and Payroll Specialist will report directly to the Director of Accounting. The Accounting and Payroll Specialist should be familiar with all aspects of financial management, including non-profit, partnership and corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as payroll processing and development of internal control policies and procedures.
3+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience, nonprofit organization preferred
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Experience with financial statement preparation
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process and consolidations
Experience in preparing and review of partnership, corporate, payroll and non-profit tax filings
Experience with non-profit, educational, and property management organizations preferred
Familiarity with payroll procedures and wage and labor regulations
Expertise in Quickbooks required (increased pay incentive for QB pro certified candidates)
FASB and GAAP experience preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Excellent attention to detail
Essential Job Duties:
Works closely with Director of Accounting to ensure accuracy in accounting
Reconciles financials with the Business Office
Ensures compliance with accounting procedures
Prepares monthly and annual financial reports and budgets
Ensures accuracy in billing and revenue reporting
Prepare weekly accounts payable items for review
Prepared semi-monthly and monthly payroll for review
Maintain employee records
Responsible for incidental billing and accounts receivable
Supports financial audit and 401(k) audit process, as well as 990 filing
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Finance or Director of Accounting
This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position and compensation is $25.00-$30.00 per hour.
