Essential Job Functions
- Adhere to the school philosophy recognizing the developmental nature of childhood growth and each child’s need for belonging.
- Support students in the elementary (1st-5th) and middle school level (6th-8th) in both push-in and pull-out settings, individually and in small group
- Work with parents and teachers to formulate the best program for the child at High Meadows
- Work with a child’s strengths and weaknesses in a pro-active manner. Modifications and creative strategies are required to teach the child who has difficulty learning in the mainstream setting
- Design and implement reading instruction and assessment with specialized approach such as Orton-Gillingham when needed
- Understand instruction in all subject areas with a focus on differentiated instruction and alternative approaches
- Develop individualized student goals and evaluate and report progress
- Collaborate with support team teachers as well as classroom teachers
The Campus
High Meadows School sits on 42 wooded acres in Roswell. The school is housed in several buildings spread across the two meadows on the property. We have an active barnyard on campus, serving as the home for horses, sheep, bunnies, chickens, and pigs. Faculty and staff must be comfortable traveling between buildings in all types of weather, participating in outdoor activities on the meadows and in the forest, and intermingling with animals.
Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education preferred, Master’s degree in Education preferred
- Preference given to Orton-Gillingham certification, Wilson or specialized GA Reading Endorsement
- Preference given to applicants with current GA teaching certificate
- Must have a superior understanding of Learning Disabilities and different learning styles
- Minimum Five years’ current teaching experience in support/resource setting
