Hillside School is currently looking to hire a part-time learning specialist for the 2023-2024 school year, for our morning session that runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 - 11:00 am.
Hillside School is a half-day program located in Boulder County for students with dyslexia that focuses on individualized instruction of reading, written language, and math while allowing students to attend their traditional school for the remainder of the day.
In a small setting of four students, teachers personalize instruction for each student’s unique learning style, level, and pace. This approach reduces academic anxiety while creating comradery among peers who are similar learners. Hillside students’ progress is not only measured in academic growth, but also in their transformation into confident, capable learners.

Responsibilities:
- Plan and teach three fifty-minute academic sessions in the areas of reading, written language and math to a group of four students
- Administer assessments and progress monitoring tools to measure progress and develop student academic goals
- Conference with parents three times per year and additionally as needed throughout the year
- Provide written reports twice a year to parents documenting student strengths, challenges, and current levels of performance
- Supervise break time between academic sessions, as well as arrival and dismissal duties as assigned
- Attending weekly faculty meetings, conferences, informational meetings, school events, and professional growth activities as required
- Establish communication with the students’ other schools in which they spend the other half of their day
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Have the desire to work collaboratively with a team of educators who are committed to ongoing professional development and advancement of one’s teaching practice
- Bring a positive attitude and curiosity towards problem solving to best understand and meet the needs of each student
- Prioritize authentic, supportive connection with your students and their families
- Be able to work flexibly between in-person and remote learning as current Covid-19 guidance dictates
- Have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in special education or related field
- Hold current teaching credentials
- Have a minimum of three years teaching experience
- Be trained in Orton-Gillingham or an Orton-Gillingham based program and have experience implementing the program with individuals or small groups
- Have experience teaching math and a willingness to learn and implement math intervention
- Be familiar with profiling students according to their strengths and challenges
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary: $27,000- 32,000 depending on experience
- Hours: approximately 20-25 hours per week, August 2023 through May 2024
