Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES) is seeking an Upper School Learning Resource Teacher. HIES is the largest Episcopal Parish day school in the country, offering a fully accredited college preparatory program for students age three through 12th grade. HIES is located north of downtown Atlanta between I-75 and GA 400.
The Learning Resource Teacher is primarily responsible for study skills, executive function, and curriculum support for students with learning differences in the Upper School. Previous teaching experience and experience working with students with learning differences is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a warm, engaging demeanor and the ability to relate to adolescents in both a small group and one-on-one setting.
Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of teaching methods, differentiated instruction techniques, and study strategies for students who learn differently
· Understanding of the teenage brain and how students learn, especially those with learning differences
· Strong organization, problem-solving, communication, and technology skills
· Flexibility with day-to-day classroom plans based on student needs
· Ability to engage with high school curriculum across disciplines
Typical Duties
· Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning differences, and accommodations.
· Monitor student progress, assess student needs, and offer specific plans for student improvement.
·Work one-on-one and in small groups with students on study skills, organization, time management and course assignments.
· Communicate regularly with parents, students, counselors, and teachers regarding student concerns.
· Participate in professional development to stay current on best practices for teaching students with learning differences.
· Create an engaging and positive learning environment that encourages student success.
· Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s code of conduct.
Educational and Other Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required, Master’s preferred
· Prior experience as a learning specialist, working with students with ADHD and learning disabilities, or high school teaching experience preferred
· Independent school experience preferred
· Successful completion of pre-employment background screening, drug testing, and safety training required
