Roles and Responsibilities:

'Iolani School is seeking a full-time Upper School Counselor to join our dynamic and collaborative upper school counseling team. Upper school counselors support and serve students in grades 7-12. The counselor will report directly to the Director of Counseling and will be responsible for

• Providing personal, social, and academic counseling and guidance to students. 
• Coordinating all activity and communication involved in providing students support, such as meetings with students/families/teachers/administrators when a student is experiencing an academic or personal challenge. 
• Overseeing the academic scheduling process for students. 
• Helping students identify their challenges in the learning process, defining their learning style preferences, and assisting them in implementing strategies and in developing self-advocacy skills.
• Teaching a guidance course or structured study hall. 
• Working with students in small group sessions. 
• Providing guidance with organizational and study skills inclusive of note-taking and study strategies.
• Ensuring that all students experience a strong sense of belonging and are empowered to thrive during their time at 'Iolani School.
• Collaborating with the Director of Social & Emotional Health regarding student mental health and well-being. 

Candidate:

The ideal candidate will,

• Have knowledge of contemporary theories of learning, personality, and counseling. 
• Possess significant knowledge of learning differences and intervention strategies.
• Be equipped to serve a diverse population. 
• Effectively communicate in a variety of settings.
• Exercise good judgment.
• Have a demonstrated commitment to student support.
• Desire to collaborate closely with their colleagues and be an active part of a dynamic team.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in learning support and social-emotional health.

A Master’s degree in Secondary School Counseling and 3-5 years of experience working with students in grades 7-12 is preferred.
