Kentucky Country Day school is seeking a full-time Upper School Learning Specialist to join our team. The learning specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing interventions, providing support and instruction to students individually and in small groups, as well as coaching and supporting teachers in effective strategies primarily in writing, comprehension, executive functioning, and general content areas. As part of the support team, the Learning Specialist will work closely with the Director of Student Services, Deans, and Counselor and will collaborate regularly with faculty, families, and other specialists to improve student achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assess and monitor needs of students referred

Determine and document appropriate goals and intervention measures

Provide feedback to teachers and parents on student progress

Assist faculty in enriching or supporting students in the classroom environment either to support the learning specialist’s work or to meet student needs when more intensive support is not needed

Assist with test administration for students receiving accommodations

Provide professional development to faculty as needed

Attend parent-teacher conferences as needed and write grade report comments for students receiving support

Participate in upper school activities, community events, and assist with duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in education or related field preferred, certifications, relevant experience considered
- Ability to work effectively with children across multiple age/grade levels
- Strong knowledge of upper school curriculum and teaching and learning strategies
- Experience working with students with diverse educational backgrounds and learning abilities
- Experience supporting or coaching teachers in curriculum design and implementation, differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, authentic/performance assessment
- Thorough understanding of learning differences and best practices for instructing neurodiverse students
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to continued professional development
