Position Status: Exempt/Full-Time/12-months

Position Summary:

• Lead our school forward in its diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives
• Develop strong relationships with faculty, students, parents, administrators and trustees in order to serve as a resource for discussion/dialogue facilitation, problem-solving, and strategic planning on issues such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, family composition, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic differences
• Cultivate honest, productive, and respectful conversations that flow across campus and into the greater community
• Build relationships with organizations and individuals in Lancaster to enhance student understanding of and interaction with their local community
• Shape this role as the DEIB needs of the school community continue to evolve

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree plus a master’s degree or a minimum of two years of work in DEIB
• At least two years of full-time classroom teaching experience is strongly preferred
• Experience as a supervisor and skill as an evaluator of others’ performance is desired
• Demonstrated leadership ability with adults, both individually and in groups
• Demonstrated commitment in a school or university setting to DEIB goals
• Commitment to professional growth and to receiving and acting on constructive feedback
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Comfort with and enthusiasm for working with students in Pre-School through Grade 12
• Capacity to work with others in a high-functioning, collaborative, and innovative educational setting

Additional Functions:

• Serve as a member of the Administrative Team
• Collaborate with the Division Heads as well as with Department Chairs
• Lead review and revision of School’s Diversity Statement
• Work closely with Admissions and Development offices to enhance recruitment and retention of a diverse student body
• Assist the Head of School, Human Resources and Division Heads in recruiting, hiring, and retaining diverse faculty and staff
• Assist in the interviewing of all candidates for full-time positions, engage in outreach with local universities, schools, and businesses to expand hiring pools, and contribute to welcoming the new teachers and staff 
• Coordinate faculty/staff DEIB professional learning communities
• Manage the DEIB departmental budget
• Communicate the School’s institutional vision around diversity and publicize the School’s commitment to DEIB
• Lead efforts to gauge the school culture and climate for students, faculty, and staff, and develop strategies to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff feel valued for their individual talents and unique cultural perspectives
• Promote, advise, and support curriculum development aimed at teaching and learning to think critically about cultural diversity
• Support teachers as they develop lessons in the Lower, Middle and Upper School classrooms on the study of race, gender, ethnicity, nation and nationhood, class, religion, social justice and their intersections, and collaborate with faculty members, department heads and academic committees to develop courses and curricula
• Actively research best practices that address common classroom challenges in teaching about identity, social difference, and inequality, and train LCDS teachers in ways these ideas might be incorporated into their classrooms
• Work with department chairs to evaluate and elevate curriculum across all three divisions from a perspective of DEIB
• Facilitate student attendance at conferences and other cultural engagement opportunities
• Facilitate and advise Upper, Middle and Lower School student affinity groups
• Work with the Division Heads to design professional development on DEIB topics
• Develop relationships with alumni of color through the Alumni of Color Council and other outreach initiatives
• Teach one section of a Middle School or Upper School course
• Serve as an academic advisor to about eight students
• Other duties assigned, which could include coaching a sports team, chaperoning field trips locally, nationally or internationally, and otherwise participating fully in the life of the School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
• Generally work in standard office conditions and climate
• Work in a fast-paced and professional environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
• Work in a school environment with frequent contact with students
