Léman Manhattan Preparatory School is seeking a full-time leave replacement IB English B (English as a second language) teacher and Middle School Mandarin teacher for the remaining School Year (March 13th, 2023- June 16th, 2023)!
Léman Manhattan is an international school whose global outlook utilizes the International Baccalaureate Programme as a foundation for educating students to be the successful leaders of tomorrow.
This position shall have direct oversight of the student body, including behavior management, academic protocols, and guidance. Ability to connect with students and families, and to work as part of a dedicated team of individuals.
The IB English B & MS Mandarin Teacher is responsible for the following:
- Exercise good classroom management by using fair and consistent standards and appropriate sanctions that are clearly articulated to the students.
Encourage students to ask questions and to express their difficulties. - Know and use various assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives.
- Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication by ensuring that these reports are accurate and constructive.
- Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Identify students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.
- Provide opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication.
- Provide a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.
- Create a stimulating and challenging learning environment.
- Create an environment that fosters a global mindset.
- Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Assist students in taking responsibility for their actions.
- Encourage students to set realistic goals and to use their time in a constructive and balanced manner.
- Encourage students to participate in the co-curricular life of the school.
- Attend functions in support of the school and community.
- Maintain student portfolios and facilitate student-led conferences following division requirements.
Skill Set Requirements:
- Ability to speak, read, and write the foreign language assigned fluently.
- Deep knowledge of philosophy, theory, and recent research in second-language acquisition.
- Introduce and strengthen language with supporting materials to develop a high level of proficiency in the foreign language.
- Encourage students to develop oral and literacy language skills appropriate to age and abilities by consistent modeling.
- Communicate knowledge of the foreign language and culture.
- Ability to teach in a blended adaptive learning environment/classroom.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Project Based Learning.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Outcome Curriculum Mapping.
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and grade level.
- Ability to function as a student achievement advocate and advisor.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly developed presentation skills.
- Effective organizational skills include lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments.
- Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner.
- Ability to mentor and coach students.
- Ability to prioritize and expend allotted resources aligned with stated academic priorities.
