Position Overview:
The School Nurse plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of students and employees by providing skilled medical care and first aid with professionalism, expertise, and compassion. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong collaboration skills and the ability to effectively manage a dynamic Health Services Office while maintaining a composed, organized, and positive demeanor.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as campus first responder to medical emergencies and provide Emergency Responders with needed information. Provide care for students and staff in need, due to injury or illness
Develop individual healthcare plans (IHP) for students with chronic health issues.
Within the nurse’s scope of practice and state laws, train and delegate unlicensed school personnel in medication administration and/or the delivery of health services as ordered by a licensed healthcare provider.
Assist faculty and staff in monitoring students with chronic health conditions.
Coordinate care and student emergency care plans related to diabetes, asthma, seizures, and allergies, and training in the use of emergency medications.
Administer daily, PRN, and emergency medications as needed.
Maintain student medications as required by law and school policy.
Obtain and maintain Authorization for Prescription Medication Forms. Report Communicable Diseases to the Georgia Department of Health as required by state law.
Serve as a member of the school emergency crisis management team and any other positions as requested by the Head of School.
Stay abreast of changes in state law concerning areas of responsibility.
Review and update standing orders for OTC medications yearly Maintain a file of GA Form 3231, GA Form 2208, and any older Religious Waivers (prior to the 2015-2016 school year) in preparation for the yearly audit.
Communicate daily air quality, pollen count, and extreme temperature alerts, when students may be at risk. Stay abreast of changes in state law concerning areas of responsibility.
Review and update standing orders for OTC medications yearly.
