Director of Studies/Curriculum
At Moorestown Friends School, we weave academic rigor with Quaker values to serve a dual purpose: offering uncommon intellectual challenges while also instilling vital emotional and ethical attributes that empower our students. Our focus on relationships creates conditions for great intellectual daring, remarkably productive collaboration, and courageous perseverance. And our Quaker values impart universal principles of equality, compassion, reflection, and responsibility—which serve students from all backgrounds and belief systems and remain relevant in rapidly changing times.
Bridging many aspects of intellectual life on campus, the Director of Teaching and Learning oversees curriculum and instruction in all three divisions, coordinates professional development and the faculty professional growth program, and supports a thoughtful and talented faculty to envision the best possible education for students in Preschool through Grade 12. The successful Director of Teaching and Learning embraces equity as a professional imperative, understanding that a rigorous and meaningful academic experience must be accessible to and reflective of all students. The candidate should embody a growth mindset, connect easily with diverse constituencies, espouse an innovative and progressive view of education, and effectively provide resources and constructive feedback to faculty in order to promote professional growth within a rigorous and nurturing learning environment. The Director of Teaching and Learning reports to the Associate Head of School and is a key member of the school’s academic leadership. This full-time exempt 12-month position starts July 1, 2023.
Opportunity:
Moorestown Friends School recently launched its new Strategic Plan: A Compass for Our Future. Central to our mission and strategy is a focus on being an inclusive community; an emphasis on environmental sustainability and global engagement; and a commitment to experiential learning and student well-being. MFS is a richly diverse community of over 51% students of color and 22% faculty/staff of color. Deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, MFS is focused on ensuring an equitable educational experience where all students’ voices and identities are welcomed, affirmed, and reflected in the curriculum. Rooted in Quaker values, Moorestown Friends School believes that a high-quality education is contingent upon meaningful relationships, a spirit of partnership, and a belief in the inherent value of every individual and their ability to make the world a better place. Learning and teaching at MFS should be grounded in these beliefs and provide a foundation for students to lead lives of courage and consequence while in school and beyond.
The Director of Teaching and Learning is a newly formed position and an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to help MFS take an already strong academic experience and bring it to the next level. With a talented faculty in place, the Director will work collaboratively to re-envision the faculty professional growth program and provide professional learning opportunities to support our strategic direction. With deep expertise in best pedagogical practices, the Director will lead innovations in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at MFS.
