Subject: Entrepreneurship Teacher

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

New England Innovation Academy seeks a motivated and innovative teacher to develop and teach courses in entrepreneurship for grades 6-12. The teacher will be responsible for designing a curriculum that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset and thinking, creating and implementing lesson plans, assessing student learning, and providing guidance and support to students interested in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career. The ideal candidate will have experience in both teaching and entrepreneurship, as well as a passion for inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.

The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, serving as an advisor to a small cohort of students, and actively supporting various student and residential life activities. The Entrepreneurship Teacher works collaboratively and creatively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions.

NEIA encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning, and consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Teachers invest in the life of the school by participating in the advising program, social and emotional learning, weekly team meetings, anti-bias training, student and residential life, and any aspects that support the student experience.  

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Head of Teaching & Learning, teachers prepare lesson plans, engage students with a project-based curriculum, and assess student work and performance through NEIA's Competency-Based model. They also provide feedback, document student progress, and assign learning extensions. Teachers are responsible for creating and maintaining a positive learning environment, guiding and encouraging students to fulfill their academic potential and accomplish learning goals, commanding their classrooms, and responding to parent and guardian communications in a timely manner. Finally, teachers are expected to understand and utilize Human-Centered Design as a process and develop it as an ethos across the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Design and develop a comprehensive entrepreneurship curriculum for grades 6-12 that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset.

• Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities and real-world examples to help students develop the skills and knowledge needed to be successful entrepreneurs.

• Incorporate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.

• Assess student learning and provide feedback on their progress using a variety of methods.

• Provide guidance and support to students who are interested in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career, including mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities.

• Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to integrate entrepreneurship into other subjects and activities across the school.

• Stay current on industry trends and developments in entrepreneurship and incorporate new ideas and best practices into the curriculum.

• Embody NEIA’s principles of empathy, equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaboration in all work activities and actions.

• Engage in ongoing professional learning and development per the school’s professional growth framework.

• Supports the work of School Leadership in reaching strategic goals.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required by the position and the school.

Qualifications:

• Experience in entrepreneurship, including starting a business, managing a team, or working in a related field.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

• Ability to develop and implement a curriculum that engages and challenges students of all levels and abilities.

• Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members.

• Knowledge of industry trends and developments in entrepreneurship and a commitment to staying current in the field.

• Ability to work with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty, and personal accountability at all times.  

• Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods.  

• Ability to incorporate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to students' lives.  

• Ability to use technology effectively in teaching, learning, and administrative functions and be willing to stay current in technology skills and learn emerging technologies as needed.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in education, entrepreneurship, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a middle or high school setting.

Supervisory Responsibilities. The Entrepreneurism Teacher does not supervise any other employees at NEIA.

This 10-month, full-time teaching staff position begins in late August 2023. Interested candidates should email a cover letter and resume/CV to careers@neiacademy.org. 

Candidates who advance in the process will be asked to submit two or three short written responses to prompts and to teach a demonstration lesson on campus. Candidates who advance to the final stage of the process will be asked to provide the contact information for three professional references.
