Position Summary
New England Innovation Academy seeks a motivated and innovative teacher to develop and teach courses in entrepreneurship for grades 7-12. The teacher will be responsible for collaborating on designing a curriculum that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset and thinking, creating and implementing lesson plans, assessing student learning, and providing guidance and support to students interested in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career. The ideal candidate will have experience in both teaching and entrepreneurship, as well as a passion for inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, serving as an advisor to a small cohort of students, and actively supporting various student and residential life activities. The Entrepreneurship Teacher works collaboratively and creatively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Contribute to designing and developing a comprehensive entrepreneurship curriculum for grades 7-12 that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset in collaboration with the Head of Teaching & Learning and the Director of Curriculum & Professional Learning.
Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities and real-world examples to help students develop the skills and knowledge needed to be successful entrepreneurs.
Incorporate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.
Assess student learning and provide feedback on their progress using a variety of methods.
Provide guidance and support to students who are interested in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career, including mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to integrate entrepreneurship into other subjects and activities across the school.
Stay current on industry trends and developments in entrepreneurship and incorporate new ideas and best practices into the curriculum.
Embody NEIA’s principles of empathy, equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaboration in all work activities and actions.
Engage in ongoing professional learning and development per the school’s professional growth framework.
Supports the work of School Leadership in reaching strategic goals.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required by the position and the school.
The Hours of Work and Responsibilities for teaching staff at NEIA include:
Teaching staff teach four classes each semester, typically with two or three different course preparations.
The standard workday for teaching staff members is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays.
Teachers are available for extra help from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays unless they are engaged in other NEIA-related commitments.
Attendance at all scheduled teaching staff meetings is mandatory for teaching staff.
Teaching staff must participate in training sessions or professional learning activities, typically scheduled when the school is not in session.
Each teacher is required to support or lead clubs and after-school activities. Clubs are scheduled twice a week for 40-minute sessions within the class day, while after-school activities take place in the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., three to four days a week. Teachers either lead or assist two after-school activities OR one club and one after-school activity each year.
Teachers chaperone weekend activities or serve as the Adult on Duty once or twice each term.
Participation in various school functions is necessary, including but not limited to Opening Meetings, Opening Family Picnic, Overnight Student Orientation Trip, Family Weekend, Professional Days, Accepted Student Days, Admission Open House Events, Graduation, End-of-Year Learning Exposition,, and End-of-School Meetings.
The Head of School may assign additional duties as needed to meet the school's requirements.
Qualifications:
Experience in entrepreneurship, including starting a business, managing a team, or working in a related field.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Ability to develop and implement a curriculum that engages and challenges students of all levels and abilities.
Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members.
Knowledge of industry trends and developments in entrepreneurship and a commitment to staying current in the field.
Ability to work with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty, and personal accountability at all times.
Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods.
Ability to incorporate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to students' lives.
Ability to use technology effectively in teaching, learning, and administrative functions and be willing to stay current in technology skills and learn emerging technologies as needed.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in education, entrepreneurship, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a middle or high school setting.
