Newark Academy is seeking a full-time health/physical education teacher to join our faculty in
August of 2023. The position will include both Middle and Upper school courses with classroom
health and physical education components. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching health
and physical education while promoting a love of physical activity and wellness.
Located 35 miles from Manhattan in the suburb town of Livingston, New Jersey, Newark Academy’s
68-acre campus borders Morris and Essex counties. Its faculty is highly regarded in the New Jersey
independent school community for its especially effective combination of teaching that embraces

Responsibilities:
? Collaborate with colleagues to design and revise the curriculum
? Prepare lessons and evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and
engagement
? Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping and use of the learning
management system to post class information
? Participate in school-wide activities such as workshops, special events and professional
meetings
? Demonstrate flexibility and instructional agility in response to multiple teaching and learning
scenarios
? Engage in the life of Newark Academy as a club sponsor and coach, as well as through
various committees
Qualifications:
? Experience teaching health and physical education courses in middle school, upper school,
or higher educational setting
? Demonstrated knowledge and skills focused on social-emotional learning, nutrition, human
sexuality, mental wellness, physical fitness, and individual or team sports
? Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents and colleagues.
? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
? Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree is preferred
