North Cross’s next Director of Finance will lead the school’s financial operations and serve as a strategic thought partner with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. The Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing the annual budgeting and audit processes, conducting financial modeling to ensure the school’s financial future, and advancing North Cross’s mission through strategic financial planning. The Director of Finance reports to the Head of School, oversees the Business Office, and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees.

North Cross’s next Director of Finance will join a thriving school community. The premier independent school in the Roanoke Valley serving students in JK3 through 12th grade, North Cross enjoys a strong enrollment, an engaged parent and alumni community, a joyful and dedicated student body, and an outstanding teaching faculty. The school’s annual giving contributes over $600 thousand to the operating budget. The most recent capital campaign, The North Cross Legacy Campaign, raised over $13 million, which transformed the campus with a renovated Upper School, a new Student Commons and Library, as well as an Administrative wing. A beautiful new green space in the heart of campus connects all academic divisions.

Characteristics and Qualities for North Cross’s Next Director of Finance

• Strong financial expertise with experience in annual budgeting, managing annual audits with external auditors, and financial forecasting and planning
• Careful stewardship of the school’s finances
• Ability to provide visionary direction for the school’s budget development and reporting, financial projections, and business office structure and processes
• The ability to problem-solve, think critically, and provide creative solutions
• Ability to collaborate with the Leadership Team and the Business Office to ensure compliance with budget
• Ability to implement best practices as well as identify growth opportunities on behalf of North Cross
• A clear communicator with excellent presentation skills

The next Director of Finance must have the highest ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with discretion. The strongest candidates will hold advanced degrees in finance or relevant fields, work experience in non-profits or schools, nimbleness with Excel and other financial software, and have four years of financial leadership experience.
