Notre Dame Preparatory School, an independent, Catholic school for girls in grades 6-12 in Towson, Maryland, is seeking an experienced Middle Level School Counselor for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. The School Counselor reports directly to the Director of School Counseling and the Middle Level Principal and is responsible for administering all aspects of the comprehensive school counseling program.

Founded in 1873, the school currently enrolls approximately 800 students and has 200 full and part-time employees. The right candidate will enjoy working in a mission-driven, religious educational setting. Employment is full-time for ten months (approximate schedule is August 16^th to June 15^th annually in addition to attending new employee orientation in mid-August 2025).

Responsibilities include the following,

• Provide individual counseling on an as needed basis and make recommendations for outside mental health and therapeutic support when necessary.
• Identify students in need, assess their level of need, refer to appropriate services, and follow up to monitor student’s response to interventions.
• Provide crisis assessment and management for students and collaborate with community mental health providers.
• Create lessons and teach curriculum that is developmentally and age appropriate in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) classes.
• Assist with coordination and administration of standardized testing and the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE).
• Understand child mandated reporting laws and report to child protective services concerns of child abuse and neglect.
• Consult and collaborate with parents, guardians, and outside treatment providers.
• Meet regularly with the Middle Level Student Support Team (SST) to address student concerns and implement a plan of action for students, parents, teachers, and outside professionals.
• Carry out the institutional goals for supporting student wellness, social-emotional learning, and mental health.
• Work with teachers, learning resource specialists, and administrators to address concerns regarding the academic, social and emotional welfare of students.
• Meet regularly with the Director of Counseling to provide student updates.
• Meet with upper-level counselors to collaborate on and assist in strategizing student needs and programming.
• Develop, facilitate, and collaborate with Director of Counseling on social-emotional learning.
• Collaborate with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Director to develop programming which aligns with the DEI goals of the school.
• Create a monthly Counseling Newsletter on topics related to student success and parent education.
• Serve on divisional and campus wide committees as needed.
• Participate in school wide events throughout the year.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling and at least two year’s experience working in a school environment, preferably with Middle Level students. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Candidates will have strong organizational skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work collaboratively and think strategically is necessary, as well as the ability to build effective relationships with all stakeholders.
