Palm Beach Day Academy Upper Campus is seeking a Media and Educational Technology Specialist for Grades 4-8 for the 2023-2024 school year. This is a newly established, full-time position that involves a combination of teaching technology/computer science classes, maintaining a diverse current media collection (electronic and print), and facilitating student and staff use of the resources in the media center. The Media and Educational Technology Specialist would also be responsible for working collaboratively with teachers across grade levels to support the integration of instructional and educational technologies into the general curriculum, as well as communicating with families and continual program evaluation and development.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, experience integrating educational technology in the classroom, coding expertise, the ability to work in a team, knowledge of current trends in education and educational technology, and experience working with upper elementary and middle school aged students.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a scope and sequence for Technology Class for grades 4-6.
- Teach weekly technology/computer science classes across different grade levels.
- Collaborate and partner with faculty members to effectively and appropriately integrate new and existing educational technology throughout the school, developing an environment which encourages effective and creative use of technology for students in grades 4-8.
- Collaborate with other colleagues to build and strengthen connections between student’s research needs, curricular content, and information resources.
- Maintain a current understanding of best practices in educational technology and implement these practices. Evaluate and implement new technology tools.
- Work closely with the Upper Campus Science and Innovation team and the Technology Department to ensure access to equipment and software that support innovative instructional practices.
- Communicate effectively with the Technology Educator and Media Specialist on the Lower Campus to ensure the alignment of curriculum from K-8.
- Select, assemble and provide access to a variety of materials that meet the needs of various learning situations and support curriculum.
- Provide leadership and instruction in the ethical use of information and technologies.
- Be responsible for maintaining the media center department budget.
- Supervise students in the media center after school each day until 4:15 pm.
A Bachelor’s Degree in educational technology or a related subject is a prerequisite for this position and a Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates should have an engaging, innovative approach to teaching and three or more years of experience teaching computer science / technology integration classes to students in a variety of grades. Familiarity working with Google Suite, video production, and Graphic Design a plus. Strong candidates will also have experience working in a Maker Space/STEAM Lab and will be comfortable providing professional development and training to colleagues.
