The Director of Auxiliary Programming at Smith Street Arts et Lettres reports directly to the Head of School. S/he develops and supervises the summer and after school program at the school to provide exploratory learning and academic enrichment courses and activities. S/he will seek to increase the school’s visibility with prospective full-time students, peer institutions, and other organizations in the wider community.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, market, schedule, and oversee both the entire after school and summer camp operation, including academic, extra-curricular, athletic, and off-campus activities.
• Devise and manage the registration process for prospective students.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a cadre of competent and properly trained teachers and staff members to organize and facilitate the after school/summer camp program, ensuring that all instructors perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism.
• Create and monitor all safety and health programs for the after school/summer camp.
• Schedule regular meetings of after school/summer camp program staff and instructors to evaluate, develop, and implement instruction that reflects the vision of the school and meets optimal standards of safety.
• Provide faculty and staff performance evaluations and feedback.

• Monitor student progress and establish standards of student behavior to provide a productive environment and to ensure the optimal condition and safety of all equipment and facilities.
• Handle disciplinary issues.
• Arrange for thoughtful communications with and events for the parents of the after school/summer camp students.
• Create, maintain, and communicate all records, as required by the school, other schools, consultants, and professional associations.

• Partner with the director of admissions to identify and recruit qualified students for the full-year program.
• Work with the business officer to develop a budget and to ensure the profitability of the program.
• Collaborate with the director of communications to create print and online marketing materials for the after school/summer camp program, produce the catalog of after school/summer camp program offerings, and generate enthusiasm for and promote the program’s success.
• Coordinate with the director of facilities to arrange for after school/summer camp program facility and/or equipment needs.

• Represent and serve as official spokesperson of the after school/summer camp program at local events, fairs, and festivals.
• Prepare appropriate summary reports for the school, the trustees, and the public.
• Participate in professional development opportunities.
• Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the head of school.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including summer camp permits application and renewal.

Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Bilingual French/English preferred
• At least 5 to 10 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in a school or youth-serving organization
• Supervisory experience
• Successful track record working with a wide range of people
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
• Exceptional entrepreneurial and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively
• Computer literacy
• High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
