Position Overview
St. Anne’s Episcopal School, a preschool through 8th grade co-educational day school situated on a beautiful, 125 acre campus in Middletown, Delaware, seeks a committed and enthusiastic fifth grade math and science teacher who loves working with 10 and 11-year-old students. The job centers around teaching two sections of fifth graders in both math and science as well as serving as a homeroom teacher.
Primary Responsibilities:
Classroom Culture & Management:
Deliberately develop a safe and inclusive learning environment where each student is known, loved, challenged and inspired.
Maintain high standards for student behavior and demonstrate expert classroom management that center around our core values of respect, responsibility and compassion.
Consciously build a classroom culture that actively embraces students of all backgrounds.
Communicate with parents and administration concerning student challenges.
Curriculum & Instruction:
Teach fifth grade math and science with a focus on building critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Plan and deliver effective, innovative, engaging, developmentally appropriate student-centered math and science lessons.
Differentiate instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities and backgrounds as well as provide frequent support and extensions as needed.
Create projects, interdisciplinary lessons and connections between math and science, and utilize our beautiful campus for outdoor learning.
Integrate opportunities for students to begin to develop high school prep skills, including: research, test preparation, writing, project planning and presentations.
Deliver instruction and materials that are aligned with our Episcopal identity and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging mission of the school.
Community Collaboration:
Through clear and consistent communication, build partnerships with parents that center around mutual trust in order to best support student growth and well-being.
Establish collaborative, collegial and supportive working relationships with other faculty and staff.
Homeroom:
Serve as the homeroom teacher, role model and primary mentor for up to 18 fifth grade students.
Lead homeroom activities and curriculum focused on: community building, social emotional learning, metacognition and inclusion & belonging.
Lead parent conferences twice annually.
Additional Responsibilities:
Lead a middle school co-curricular program such as: Chess Team, Robotics, Future City, Math Team, Geography Club, Student Council, Junior Model U.N. or the Yearbook.
Complete thorough and thoughtful report cards three times a year.
Attend and supervise students at cyclical school-day Episcopal chapel services as well as school events and activities outside of the school day.
Plan and chaperone grade level field trips.
Participate in regular team meetings during the school day and bi-weekly faculty meetings after school.
Perform additional duties as assigned such as monitoring recess, lunch and study hall.
Note: Preference will be given to candidates who can serve as a sports team coach or assist with our musical.
Preferred Qualifications – Candidates will possess:
A Bachelor’s Degree in education or STEM or another related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
At least 3-5 years of relevant teaching/classroom experience with older elementary or younger middle school students.
Knowledge of best practices in both instruction and curriculum development for fifth grade math and science.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to regularly sit, turn, bend, reach, stand, walk, talk, hear, and interact with students, peer-teachers, staff, parents, campus visitors and others.
Must be able to lift 25lbs.
Must have the ability to understand and present materials and communicate with constituents and co-workers in a harmonious manner.
